HUMANS, MACHINES, MANUALS: A ROUNDTABLE ON CREATING CONTENT WITH AI
Veranstaltungsinformationen | Anmeldung
Can artificial intelligence really help write a user manual? What does it get right — and where does it go wrong?
Join us for a roundtable discussion where graduate students reflect on their hands-on experiences with ChatGPT as part of a semester-long project in the Translation Standards course. This session focuses on the second phase of a four-part research project exploring human–AI collaboration in technical documentation.
Working with the IEC/IEEE 82079 standard for user instructions, students were tasked with guiding ChatGPT to generate sections of a user manual in Turkish. Throughout the process, they engaged in prompt design, critical evaluation, and human revision — learning not only how to use generative AI effectively, but also how to navigate its limitations.
In this roundtable, students will share their insights into:
- Designing effective prompts for technical content
- Evaluating AI-generated output for clarity, compliance, and accuracy
- Balancing creativity, structure, and responsibility in human–AI workflows
- The evolving role of translators and technical communicators in AI-assisted contexts
Whether you're a researcher, educator, student, or industry professional, this conversation will offer valuable perspectives on the future of writing — where human expertise meets machine speed.
