Localizing ERP products balances literal and conceptual approaches
Adapting ERP Systems to Local Requirements
NĂºria Riera
When one focuses on ERP (enterprise resource planning) localization, the first thing that usually comes to mind is the legal aspect of these products. It is true that, compared to other products localization, this is a clearly distinct feature, but it is not the main discussion in this article. The existence of legal, economic, financial and fiscal rules and regulations for each country is far more complex than any country-specific electronic regulations, for instance, and out of the scope for the plain translator and also for most of the individuals involved in the translation process. In fact, it will already be handled by the customer and his or her local sales and support offices. So, one should reasonably assume that this will be taken care of by the manufacturer.
