As an alternative to commercial programs for DTP and Word processing several applications are available, which are free of licensing fees. One of the best-known examples was the office application Star Office, till its version 5.2 was released - an application that has the potential to outperform its commercial competitors. Other applications are used in image processing or to create PDF files.
