What brings AECMA S1000D into the civilian area?

The story describing the construction of the tower of Babel and its consequences is well known since long. As though the problems arising from the vast number of languages are not enough, mankind never gets tired of creating new file formats and documentation formats which are not understood by people any longer. AECMA S1000D, a specification used in the defence area could be a solution to this problem. In this article we would like to throw light on this specification and at the same time initiate a discussion on how far this AECMA S1000D specification could be applied in the civilian area.
