A "benchmark" is essentially a standard in the field of surveying. The benchmark is also an eponym for a method which enables systematic comparison of processes, products and strategies. In the field of technical documentation, the advantages of the benchmarking method have now been realized. This method helps the department head to evaluate, control and optimize the performance of his department.
